Katarina began skating at age five. old. She was able to prove her skills and get into a Karl-Marx-Stadt special school specifically designed for gifted kids. The school where she was enrolled she met her coach Jutta Muler. Witt was second place at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. This marked her debut. Since then, her grace and beauty have captivated all the attention of people. Olympic success Katarina (now Witt) took home the women's Figure Skating Gold Medal during Sarajevo in the Sarajevo Winter Games. Four years later she took home another contest that was even more competitive. Although she lost in the free-skating competition, the gold was awarded for her performances on the mandatory figures as well as the short program. Witt became the first woman to win in both women's and men's figure-skating in the past since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame After enjoying success as an actress, Witt returned to the sport to compete at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. Although she didn't take home a medal, the young woman delighted her fans despite coming in seventh. Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame on the 15th of April, 1995.
